Our School Zone
The zone is the area bounded by Norton Park Avenue, including Norton Park Grove, Wyndrum Avenue along the east bank of the Waiwhetu Stream to Cleary Street. All streets adjoining Cleary Street, including Mission Street, St Francis Grove, Damian Grove, Chanel Grove and Volkner Grove. South along Cleary Street and following the Waiwhetu Stream until it meets Guthrie Street. West on Guthrie Street, across the railway line to Hinau Street until it reaches Penrose Street. Right into Penrose Street, right into Knights Road, then left into Mahoe Street, left into Birch Street then right into Waterloo Road. When Waterloo Road meets Cambridge Terrace, head north then turn right into Brasell Street, left into Waiwhetu Road and right into Norton Park Avenue.
Criteria for Enrolment
Applications for out of zone students will be processed in the following order of priority: This priority order is determined by the amendment to the Education Act under 11(F) of the Education Act 1989.

First priority will be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in an approved special programme. This priority category is not applicable to Waterloo School.

Second priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students

Third priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students

Fourth priority will be given to applicants who are children of former students
-
Fifth priority will be given to applicants who are either children of Board employees or of a member of the School Board

Sixth priority will be given to all other applicants
If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held and will be supervised by a Justice of the Peace. The date will be publicised in the Hutt News. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
Out Of Zone?
We are no longer accepting out of zone enrolments for 2024. All out-of-zone enrolment applications for 2025 will be held for consideration by the Board of Trustees in September 2024. All applications for out-of-zone enrolments for 2025 must be received at the school office by 3.00pm on Thursday 5th September 2024. Applications for enrolment must be on the pre-enrolment form available from the school office or download your copy below.

Children who move into the zone described above shall have absolute right of enrolment.

The Principal, in consultation with the School Board, will determine the number of available spaces for out of zone enrolments prior to September 1st each year. The number of available spaces will be advertised in a local newspaper and will state the pre-enrolment period and the ballot dates.

A balloted waiting list will be established. Places will be offered to children on this waiting list as they become available.

Proof of residential address is required for in-zone enrolments only. We require either a copy of your Hutt City Council rates bill or your Tenancy Agreement.

Birth Certificate (preferable) or Passport.

N.Z. Residence Permit or Student Visa/Permit (if applicable) together with Parent/s passport with a valid work permit and evidence of the family relationship e.g. child’s birth certificate.

Immunisation Certificate: All primary schools are required to keep a register recording the immunisation status of all enrolled children born on or after 1 January 1995, under the Health (Immunisation) Regulations 1995.

Transitioning to School
Transition to school (Waterloo Transition to School Info Booklet)
There is a Parent Information evening held once per term called NE Chit Chat hosted by DP or Year 1 Team Leader. This is usually on a Wednesday evening 7 - 8pm. Please contact Danielle Wright for information about dates.
Upon confirmation of enrolment new entrants will be invited to attend 2 school visits, this invitation is sent via email from our administration manager.

Ruru Club
In weeks 3, 6 and 9 of each term we run our Ruru Club. This is a preschool club aimed to give enrolled four year olds a head start in settling into school during the time they are making school visits leading up to beginning school. These are be held from 2- 3pm on a Thursday afternoon (using Rm 16).
​
We have a specially designed programme for these children presented by one of our Deputy Principals, to help make their transition to school easier which includes literacy, arts and math activities.
This is an opportunity for children and their parents to interact together and become familiar with school routines, and for preschoolers to bond together.
