Waterloo School’s Health Education Delivery Statement 2019-2020
The following statement has been developed to inform our school community about how health education will be implemented at Waterloo School. This is based on parent feedback, the New Zealand Curriculum requirements and identified student needs across the school.
Waterloo Primary School will implement a programme of Health Education based on the New Zealand Curriculum and in keeping with the school’s charter and values. The Health and Physical Education learning area is underpinned by four key concepts that consider overall well-being, interactions between people and society, the need for healthy communities and health-enhancing attitudes and values. In delivering Health Education, Waterloo Primary School teachers will use a range of appropriate teaching strategies that engage students and enable development of the key competencies, while taking opportunities to integrate Health Education learning with other aspects of The New Zealand Curriculum.
The focus of the programme will be to give our students the knowledge, skills and attitudes to maintain and enhance well-being. Our Waterloo programme will be informed by ‘best practice’ and and ERO’s resource(s) ‘Sexuality Education in Primary Schools’, Family Planning’s ‘Navigating the Journey’ and the New Zealand Police’s ‘Keeping Ourselves Safe’ programme.
