NE/Year 1

Reading
The children will be bringing a reading book and word cards home Monday to Thursday.  Please listen to the children read their books every night and record this in their homework books.  Please practise reading and writing with the word cards as often as possible.

Alphabet
An alphabet sheet can be found in the front of the homework books (We have replacement copies should you need another).  It is important for children to recognise letters by name and sound to assist them when learning to read and write.  Plenty of practise learning letter names and sounds will help the children to progress in reading and writing.

Maths
Our Maths is divided into Numeracy and Strand (topic) maths.
Our Number focus will be increasing number knowledge of numbers 0-10 and then moving onto numbers to 20.
Our first Strand topic will be Shape which we will be looking at in Week 4.

Poetry
On Fridays children will bring home their poetry books to share with you over the weekend.  These need to be returned to school on Mondays.  Homework books will be collected in on Friday mornings.  Please remind children to bring their Home Packs to school everyday.  Please check them again after school for notices etc.

Library Time
Each class has a library day.  Please help your child to remember to return their library book to the classroom by their day.

Sharing Circle
Each Friday we will have a sharing circle after morning tea.  The children may like to bring something to share.  This is the only day that children can bring something precious from home and it will be kept in the Sharing Circle basket for the day.

Year 2

Homework
Children will be bringing homework to complete Monday – Thursday with Friday being poetry book reading. Homework usually consists of reading and alphabet / spelling and maybe Maths or Topic follow up. Homework should only take 10 – 15 mins and be at level where your child can complete the set work independently. Please try to complete Reading homework daily as it is vital to practise reading as much as possible to ensure success for your child.

Home packs/Book bags
Please empty out your child’s home pack/ book bag daily.
